GEOFF MATUS
Chairman, Cidel Bank Canada
Geoff is co-founder and chairman of Cidel. He is a director of a number of other international manufacturing and real estate companies, including Tricon Residential which he co-founded.
Geoff graduated with Bachelor of Commerce and LLB from Wits University, and received a Law Degree from Columbia University in New York. While at Wits, Geoff was a co-founder of The Legal Resource Centre in South Africa, when he was the President of the Wits Law Student Council.
Geoff has a sustained record of volunteer work in Canada: he is an honorary director and past chair of the board of directors of the Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care; a past member of the board of the Canadian Opera Company; the board of Mount Sinai Hospital and the board of Governing Council of the University of Toronto, where he currently co-chairs the Pension and Endowment Investment Committee as well as the University’s Real Estate. Geoff is a member of the board and chair of the Real Estate Committee of the MaRS Discovery District.
In 2005, he was a recipient of the Jewish Federation award for outstanding service to the community.
In 2010, he received the Arbor Award for outstanding service to the University of Toronto and in 2011 he was honoured as “Man of Distinction” by the Israel Cancer Research Fund. In 2018 Geoff received an honorary doctorate from The University of Toronto.
